On June 11th, HR leaders from around the Twin Cities joined Advent Talent Group for a complimentary seminar entitled, “Leadership and the War for Talent.” Dan Neitz of COR led an interactive workshop on how to get to the core of what talent are looking for and how to translate that into hiring practices. Attendees of this seminar earned 1.5 PDC’s for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.
What You Missed
Neitz introduced the group to strategies to use when speaking with candidates to determine their core values. He explained that everything moves in cycles, from stability to transition and periods of growth and decline.
When speaking with candidates, we learned how to determine if they are in a period of stability, transition, growth or decline. Once that is determined, you can effectively engage with candidates about what they value. Because we are assessing a candidate’s potential for success within our company, it’s important to uncover, and speak directly to, the core of each candidate. This is the key to attracting and retaining the best people!
One of the best parts about this seminar was the active audience participation. Even with a 7:30 a.m. start, everyone arrived ready to learn! During the application portion of the workshop, we discussed current life events and priorities while our partner listened to determine where we were in the cycle.
What People Said
Attendees said they “liked the interactive nature” of the seminar and that the “exercises made the content relevant and easy to apply immediately!”. When asked about what they enjoyed most about the event, they said they “appreciated a different perspective to understand an employee’s motivations.”
With data gathered from out post-seminar survey, attendees provided the following ratings out of 5 point scale:
- Event Topic: 4.8
- Quality of Information: 4.7
- Speaker and Presentation: 4.8
